Curriculum
The IGCSE Curriculum
Modern High School for Girls has chosen to offer the Cambridge ICE (International Certificate of Secondary Education) which is a group award for Cambridge IGCSE, and is very popular in India, the USA and South America.
The Cambridge ICE allows schools to offer a broad and balanced curriculum by recognising the achievements of learners who pass examinations in at least seven Cambridge IGCSE subjects from five different subject groups, including two different languages.
The Cambridge ICE Curriculum: The Cambridge IGCSE subjects are grouped into five curriculum areas:
• Group I: Languages
• Group II: Humanities and Social Sciences
• Group III: Sciences
• Group IV: Mathematics
• Group V: Creative and Professional
Learners must take two different languages from Group I, and one subject from each of Groups II, III, IV and V. The seventh subject can be taken from any of the five subject groups. At Modern High School for Girls, students are expected to do 2 English Courses, 1 additional language, and one or more courses from groups III to V, bringing up the total to 9 subjects in all.
Modern High School for Girls offers the following subjects.
Subject Selection for 2022 - 2023
GROUP I: LANGUAGES (English Language and Literature are compulsory courses)
The student may choose any one additional language from those listed below
• French as foreign language (0520)
• German as foreign language (0525)
• Hindi as second language (0549)
* students who opt for German or French, attend a special Bengali OR Hindi Extension Class once a week, to keep up with their studies in Bengali or Hindi (mother tongue language). For this class, student performance is assessed, but there is no Board examination for the subject.
GROUP II: HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES (one or more subjects from this group)
• Global Perspectives (0457) (this subject also qualifies as a group V subject)
GROUP III: SCIENCES (one or more subjects from this group)
• Environmental Management (0680) (also qualifies as a group II subject)
GROUP IV: MATHEMATICS- (International Mathematics is compulsory. A student may opt for an additional course - Additional Mathematics- this is taught from the second semester onwards.)
• International Mathematics (0607)
• Additional Mathematics (0606)
GROUP V: CREATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL
• Information and Communication Technology ICT (0417) (if this is selected Comp Science cannot be chosen)
