Five students, Atira Dewan, Jahnavi Poddar, Hunar Chowdhury, Abheri Banerjee and Prisha Khemka, from classes 9-12, participated in a workshop on contemporary American poetry at the American Centre on 27th April, 2023.

After a brief introduction to modern American poetry, each of the eight participating schools was asked to come up with their own poems based on the themes of DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility.)

Alyssa Gyness, the National Youth Poet Laureate, then joined virtually and did a reading followed by an interaction with the students. The program was attended by the U.S. Consul General, who briefly interacted with the students after their presentations of their self-composed poems. Modern High School for Girls was adjudged the Second Runner-Up.

It was an enriching experience for everyone present.
