‘Vriksharopan Utsav’( Tree Planting Ceremony) - A celebration of the sacred communion between Nature and the Human Soul

As the strains of ‘ Morubijayero Ketono Uraao Shunye’ filled the air and the students gracefully matched their steps to it, one couldn’t help but be transported to picturesque and serene Santiniketan, where Tagore started the ‘Vriksharopan Utsav’ on July 14, 1929 by planting a ‘bokul’ sapling . Modern High School for Girls has continued the legacy with its annual  ‘vriksharopan’ ceremony.

The ceremony is an expression of the bard's love for Nature and his strong belief that a deep sense of harmony binds every element of Nature. The songs and dances, as well as narration, all performed by the young and talented students of Class 8,  highlighted Tagore’s legacy of protecting the environment. The Earth is what we all have in common. The realization of the rising issue of environmental conservation lies at the very heart of every Modern High student who tries to raise awareness and contribute to making this planet

a green planet.

The beautiful flower ‘alpana’  was an artistic  expression of Tagore’s cherished ideals of ‘Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram’ - ‘Truth, Beauty and Compassion’ ; which is also the motto of our school.

The festivities ended with the song ‘Aay Aay,  Aay Aamader Angone’ and we were once again compelled to acknowledge and recognize Nature as a friend, philosopher and guide, and seek communion between Nature and the Human soul.
