Towards a Better Tomorrow

Towards a Better Tomorrow

'Towards a Better Tomorrow '' is an initiative led by Goethe-Institut, Kolkata for making Kolkata more sustainable in areas of recycling and repair‚ climate change, sustainable mobility and air pollution. It is part of the sustainability project - “Moving Kolkata – Kolkata Moving”, functioning within the framework of “European Spaces of Culture” and was executed by EUNIC New-Delhi and Kolkata with funding from EUNIC (European National Institutes for Culture) Global, Brussels. The aim of the initiative is to make people aware of some alarming effects of climate change, pollution and consumption on the city.

On the 18th of October, 2022 an excited band of Class 9 German students of Modern High School for Girls were taken on a special excursion, an 'Ausflug', to Victoria Memorial. Several stalls had been set up in the sprawling grounds which taught them about waste segregation and composting with the help of hands-on activities. The highlight of the day was a block-printing stall where the students unleashed their creativity and decorated tote bags which they were allowed to take home. The last stall was about sustainable fashion and was much appreciated. The students left the event substantially wiser and with a stronger resolve to live sustainably and protect the environment.
