Neighbourhood Walk organized by the Legacy Club
On 25h January, 2023, the members of the Legacy Club of Modern High School for Girls went for a short walk to explore some notable places located near the school. Walking down the Gurusaday Dutta Road, they first visited the compound of the Birla Industrial And Technological Museum which is situated on land previously owned by the Tagore family and is one of the major tourist attractions in Kolkata. The BITM building was previously the residence of the Birlas. They donated it to the Museum and hence it was named after them. There they explored the beam type steam engine and were enlightened about its importance in running the tug-repairing workshop at Khidderpore dockyard. They also studied the busts of famous scientists and mathematicians- Homi Jehangir Bhabha, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Venkata Raman, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Vikram Sarabhai, Meghnad Saha, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, Satyendra Nath Bose among others that were present in the garden. They then moved on to take a look at the building of Sisters of Mary Immaculate Provincial House, which is a religious institution and a charitable organization. They also visited the Tagore Hall, at present housing the offices of Goodricke and the Consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco as well as the Consulate of Switzerland. It was an entertaining as well as an informative tour of the neighbourhood for the students.
