IAYP Adventure Camp in the Brindabonpur Forest of Bankura

After a hiatus of two years, students of Modern High School for Girls who are members of the I.A.Y.P. unit went for an adventure camp in the Brindabonpur Forest of Bankura from 17th to 21st December, 2022. This adventurous journey facilitated skill development, community service and physical recreation which are the essential requirements of IAYP. With enthusiasm, determination, and an undying spirit of adventure, the unit members completed all the activities required of their journey, while making innumerable memories. While stepping out of their comfort zone, the unit members showed their dedication and alacrity by venturing out on jungle treks and they were not afraid to trek in the forest in the darkness of the night. Whether it be balancing on ropes, crossing the Burma bridge or climbing the commando net, the unit members did it all without a second thought. The students got trained in various subjects such as first aid, handling of different types of equipment such as pulleys and harnesses, studying of maps and the tying of different kinds of knots. Their visit to a nearby tribal village taught them about culture and diversity. The camp allowed the students to gather knowledge about the villagers’ local language, staple food, source of income, handicrafts and so much more. Overall, the camp inculcated in the students the values of self- reliance, teamwork and discipline in life while respecting and protecting the environment around them. They understood the importance of adapting to any situation and paying heed to the little details around them as Nature is the biggest teacher and humans are lifelong learners.
