Bird Walk at Baruipur Grasslands and Marshes
20 students and 2 Advisors of the Clean Club visited Baruipur on Saturday morning 28 January for a Bird Walk. Mr Caesar Sen along with Ms Sanchita Dey, Mr Sriram Iyer and Mr Sayan Tripathi, all senior birders, guided the walk watching and identifying marsh and water birds as well as the arboreal and grassland avians on reeds, grass and other plants. A number of resident and migratory birds were spotted. The experienced birders carried a spotting scope and a few binoculars which were very helpful for the students to spot and identify the birds and learn more about the avian world. A big Water Monitor Lizard was also spotted in the marsh.
Ms Susmita Basu, an expert on plants also accompanied the group and conducted the 'Know the Habitat ' session brilliantly. She identified the different plant species providing the students with the local as well as the botanical names of the plants. She also explained the interdependence of the flora and fauna of any region and how important it was to protect and maintain the balance in nature.
It was an enjoyable and interactive learning experience for the students.
