Congratulations to Ananya Chhaochharia- class of 2014, for having been  awarded a 100% scholarship at Harvard Kennedy school under the prestigious Gleitsman Fellowship: https://cpl.hks.harvard.edu/gleitsman-leadership-fellowship
In the light of COVID-19, Ananya's organisation Paint it Red was working on providing menstrual kits to marginalised communities. We at MHS were filled with pride when we read about  the good work that her organisation, Paint it Red , had been doing.

Stamp Issued in Honour of Alumna

Alokananda Roy,an ex student who has been felicitated and an ex teacher from 1974 -1981.

It was a proud moment indeed when a stamp was issued in Alokananda Roy’s name by the West Bengal Postal Circle in August 2019. This was to pay tribute to her innovative & heroic efforts (through the medium of dance & music), which changed the mindset of Correctional Home inmates across the state of West Bengal !



Aditi Das 

Aditi Das from the batch of 2009 is on her way to Northumbria University, in the United Kingdom, where she will be pursuing her PhD in Social Geography (The Delhi Eateries).  She previously presented interesting papers titled Colonial Foodscape of Kolkata (in Copenhagen) and An Ethnographic study of Bengal Public Dining in Kolkata(at a conference in London’s Imperial College). Just prior to her departure she conducted an interactive session with the Geography Students of Classes XI & XII  on the scope of the subject and the nuances of Geography.

Gargi B Dasgupta (nee Banerjee), from the batch of 1993, did her Engineering from Jadavpur University in Computer Science & her PhD from University of Maryland,Baltimore.We are proud to announce that she has been ranked among the 50 Most Powerful Business Women in the list of Fortune India 2019 .




THE MHS JAMAI !

The recently held ‘Alumni Idol 2019’ did not feature MHS as the winners but certainly had an MHS flavour !

Dr. Mitra (with CMRI) is from Nava Nalanda & won the Alumni Idol.However ,his mother, wife and sister are Alumni of MHS and his daughter studies here as well.  The MHS audience cheered for him as he was the MHS Jamai!



Funtakshari 6 - 2019

'Funtakshari 6' was an Inter-Alumni Antakshari Competition hosted by Birla High School Alumni on Saturday,14 September 2019, at Vidya Mandir.  The event had alumni participants from across 25 schools in Kolkata.  Eight schools competed in the finals.

Ms. Sandhya Daga Jhawar (1997 batch) and Ms. Shruti Bihani Kataruka (2006 batch) represented Modern High School at the event and won the competition.  They were awarded a trophy and a cash prize.

The cash prize was handed over by the Director of Birla High School, Ms. Mukta Nain, who is also an ex student of MHS.
