Tree Planting Ceremony 2026

On 7th August, 2026, the students of Class 8 of Modern High School for Girls transported everyone to the picturesque and serene Santiniketan, where Tagore or Kobi Guru Rabindranath Thakur, as we, the Bengalis felicitate him, started the ‘Vriksharopan Utsav’ on July 14, 1929 by planting a ‘bokul’ sapling. Modern High School for Girls has kept the legacy alive with its annual ‘vriksharopan’ (tree planting) ceremony where at the end of the ceremony, the sapling is planted in the school garden. The ceremony was an expression of the bard’s love for Nature and his strong belief that a deep sense of harmony binds every element of Nature. The various songs and dances, as well as narration, all performed by the young and talented students of Class 8, highlighted Tagore’s legacy of protecting the environment. The beautiful flower ‘alpana’ is an artistic expression of Tagore’s cherished ideals of ‘Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram’ – ‘Truth, Beauty and Compassion’ ; which is also the vision of our school. The ceremony was a celebration of the sacred communion between Nature and the human soul and compelled us to acknowledge and recognize Nature as a friend, philosopher and guide.

Class 2 Brings The Jungle Book to Life!

The students of Class 2 stepped into the enchanting world of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book through an engaging Environmental Studies and Literature activity.

Wearing colourful character masks, the children enthusiastically brought the story to life as Baloo the bear, Bagheera and the panther family, the wise python Kaa, Shere Khan and his family, Mowgli and a host of lively jungle creatures.

The dramatisation was followed by a creative poster-making session that reinforced important environmental messages. Through their artwork, the students highlighted the significance of conserving our majestic national animal, spread awareness about endangered species, advocated against poaching, and encouraged everyone to plant more trees. They also learnt about International Tiger Day, observed on 29 July, and its importance in promoting tiger conservation.

It was a joyful day where imagination, creativity and meaningful learning came together, inspiring the children to appreciate and protect the wonders of the natural world.
