Blue and White Chess Competition

On 23 July 2026, students from Classes 3, 4 and 5 of Modern High School for Girls participated in the Blue and White Inter Junior School Chess Tournament held at St Xavier’s Collegiate School . Representing the school were Aadhya Agarwal (Class 5), Nishtha Ruia (Class 5), Hrisha Ghuwalewala (Class 4) and Prisha Daga (Class 3). The young players demonstrated patience, strategic thinking and determination throughout the competition. They carefully planned their moves, displayed excellent sportsmanship and progressed to the final five rounds with commendable performances. The tournament provided a valuable learning experience, helping them strengthen their analytical and decision-making skills while building confidence, resilience and a deeper appreciation for the game of chess.

Class 1 – Healthy Eating

The students of Class 1 enjoyed learning about healthy and unhealthy food through a fun filled follow up activity on their EVS topic The Food We Eat. The children brought bread, cucumber and cheese to make a healthy and delicious sandwich. A small amount of potato chips was brought as well. This activity taught them that the major portion of our meals should contain nutritious food while junk food could be consumed in small quantities only on rare occasions. The children made the sandwich with care and were excited to eat and share tiffin made by themselves.

 

Technovation 2026

Students of Modern High School for Girls participated in Technovation 2026 on 27th July, 2026. They emerged as the Winner in Inference(Data Analysis). They secured the Second position in Socrates (IT Quiz ) and Neuralysis (AI prompt web designing) and the Third position in Gridlock (Rep event).

Movie Screening for Interdisciplinary Studies

The students of Class 7 of Modern High School for Girls went  for the movie screening of ‘Moana’ on 28th July, 2026. Before the screening, students participated in discussions and activities related to Polynesian cultural history, its geographical context and the ecological themes explored in the film.
Following the screening, students engaged in activities designed to assess their creative understanding and environmental awareness. The learning experience will integrate English, Second Language(s), History and Geography.

Flying Up Ceremony 2026

On 2 July 2026, the Class 5 Bulbuls of Modern High School for Girls were honoured with the prestigious Golden Arrow Award, the highest recognition in the Bulbuls of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. This award is a true testament to their hard work, discipline and dedication.

To earn this honour, a Bulbul must successfully complete all the tests and activities up to the Heerak Pankh stage while demonstrating the values of good citizenship, service and leadership. Having successfully completed their Bulbul journey, our students have now taken flight into the Guide Section. We congratulate our new Guides and wish them every success as they embark on this exciting new chapter.

The Inter-House Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament – 2026

On 17 July 2026 the Inter-House Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament for the Upper Primary Department was held with excitement, enthusiasm and true sportsmanship. Students from all the houses participated wholeheartedly, displaying remarkable skill, determination and teamwork throughout the competition.

In Table Tennis Singles, Ariha Soni of Champak House was the runner-up while Hiya Mitra of Gulmohar House emerged as the winner. In the Doubles event, Khushi Dinodiya and Mishita Dugar of Champak House secured the runners-up position, while Avika Agarwal and Urja Das of Magnolia House claimed the title.

In Badminton Singles, Mishita Dugar of Champak House was declared the winner and Aanvee Makkar of Jasmine House was the runner-up. In the Doubles event, Chandrika Chandra and Deveshi Sharma of Champak House finished as runners-up, while Yashvi Ramgarhia and Aryahi Aggarwal of Orchid House emerged victorious.

The tournaments were a wonderful celebration of talent, teamwork and sporting spirit.

Class 1 – Storytelling Session

The students of Class 1 enjoyed a storytelling session with Ms Kavita Gupta on 22 July 2026. The children listened attentively as the story unfolded and the colourful props along with the animated style of storytelling kept them engaged throughout the session. The lively dances incorporated into the story gave the children an opportunity to participate as well, thus enhancing their excitement.

Celebration of Bastille Day

Modern High School for Girls celebrated Bastille Day on 14th July, 2026 commemorating the storming of the Bastille Prison on this day in 1789 and also the Fête de la Fédération in 1790. Along with France, the francophones or the French speaking world, outside of France, participated with joy to honour this day.
Alliance Française du Bengale, a centre for French learning and French culture , organised  an elocution competition along with Modern High School for Girls  to raise awareness and confidence among the young French learners. The competition was conducted in three groups which targeted three different age groups. The theme was Liberty.
Around 10 schools from around Kolkata participated in the event. Kaira Maloo, a student of Modern High School for Girls, studying in class 8 B won the Third prize in Group B. which was indeed, a proud moment for us. The Director of Alliance Française du Bengal, Monsieur Marc Boudin, the Consul General from the French Embassy in Kolkata, Monsieur Thiery Morel, along with MHS Director Mrs Devi Kar and Principal Ms Damayanti Mukherjee graced the occasion. The French teachers of the participating schools and the proud parents formed the enthusiastic audience. At the conclusion of the event the winners were awarded the prizes and all participants were awarded a certificate of participation by the Consul General and the Director of Alliance Française du Bengale. It was an event worth remembering.

Science Exhibition 2026

Modern High School for Girls organized it’s Annual Science Exhibition on 18th July, 2026 highlighting the essence of true learning. The detailed presentations and the elaborate models were extremely engaging. The student’s confident interaction with parents and guests hinted at proper internalization of concepts which were largely ideated or decided by students. The activities were immersive and grounded in real life connections. Overall the students, faculty and the parents spent a fun-filled day of science.
