
Modern High School for Girls celebrated Bastille Day on 14th July, 2026 commemorating the storming of the Bastille Prison on this day in 1789 and also the Fête de la Fédération in 1790. Along with France, the francophones or the French speaking world, outside of France, participated with joy to honour this day.
Alliance Française du Bengale, a centre for French learning and French culture , organised an elocution competition along with Modern High School for Girls to raise awareness and confidence among the young French learners. The competition was conducted in three groups which targeted three different age groups. The theme was Liberty.
Around 10 schools from around Kolkata participated in the event. Kaira Maloo, a student of Modern High School for Girls, studying in class 8 B won the Third prize in Group B. which was indeed, a proud moment for us. The Director of Alliance Française du Bengal, Monsieur Marc Boudin, the Consul General from the French Embassy in Kolkata, Monsieur Thiery Morel, along with MHS Director Mrs Devi Kar and Principal Ms Damayanti Mukherjee graced the occasion. The French teachers of the participating schools and the proud parents formed the enthusiastic audience. At the conclusion of the event the winners were awarded the prizes and all participants were awarded a certificate of participation by the Consul General and the Director of Alliance Française du Bengale. It was an event worth remembering.
