Training Seminar by Japan Karate Association

Brisha Gupta of Class 8A has been selected by her dojo, Mike’s Martial Arts, to attend an exclusive Japan Karate Association (JKA) training seminar on January 20, 2026, conducted by Sensei Yuko Hirayama from Japan. This rare opportunity will greatly contribute to her technical development, discipline, and overall growth in martial arts.

Spice Club Picnic

The Junior Spice Club spent a leisurely afternoon organising a picnic under the gentle warmth of the winter sun on 13th January, 2026 with a few home-cooked delicacies and scrumptious desserts.

Legacy Club Trip 2026

A Legacy Club day trip to Deulti was organised on 12th January, 2026, offering students a meaningful exposure to India’s cultural and literary heritage.
The visit aimed to deepen students’ understanding beyond the classroom through experiential learning. Students explored the House of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, a tranquil residence where the celebrated author created several of his renowned literary works. They also visited the Madan Gopal Temple, admired for its exquisite terracotta artistry, and the Birampur Kali Temple, a traditional village shrine reflecting Bengal’s devotional heritage.
The trip was smoothly conducted under the guidance of the club advisors and proved to be an enriching and memorable learning experience for all participants.

IAYP Orientation for Classes 8 & 9

Srinjana Mukhoty, an IAYP Gold Awardee and International Youth Representative of India , currently qualified for PhD in Geography addressed the students of Classes 8 & 9 regarding the scope of IAYP. IAYP stands for the International Award for Young People, a global youth development program, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, that encourages self-improvement and community service through activities in skills, physical recreation, volunteering, and adventurous journeys for ages 14-25. It’s a non-competitive program designed to build confidence, resilience, and life skills.

Chemistry Field Trip to IACS

The Class 11 Chemistry students went for a field trip to Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science on 13th January, 2026.
They visited various facilities such as the 600MHz NMR, the liquid nitrogen facility where they experimented on the effect of liquid nitrogen on leaves and also observed the Mass Spectrometer. Overall, it was an educational trip that allowed students to delve beyond theoretical knowledge and understand the practical applications of the various aspects of their learning.

Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival, 2026

The students of Modern High School for Girls attended multiple sessions of the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival, 2026 over the course of three days from 9th January to 11th January, 2026 at the Alipur Jail Museum and the Oxford Book Store, Park Street.
The students interacted with Mr. Norman Coady in the session ‘Fun with History’ and  with Tonmoy Roy Choudhury in ‘Wordom’ that included highly engaging word games. ‘There was a Time: The Charm of Historical Fiction.’ was an engaging session with Madhurima Vidyarthi, Tarana Husain Khan and Harshali Singh. ‘Leads on management and leadership’ saw Akshay Jaitly, Nirupama Subramanian and Rajesh Ramakrishnan in conversation. Such thought provoking sessions enabled the students to engage with topics beyond the prescribed curricula and afforded them the opportunity to engage in myriad conversations ranging from the creative process to the exploration of the volatile fabric of history and linguistics.

History Activity

Class 9 students conducted a peer-teaching session for Class 7 students on ‘Making a Nation: Exploring Rights and Duties’. The objective was to cultivate awareness, responsibility, and active citizenship among our learners. Peer teaching enables students to connect with concepts more naturally, making the learning process friendlier, more relatable, and often more enjoyable.
This experience also empowered the Class 9 students to strengthen and consolidate their understanding of the topic. By breaking down ideas and presenting them in simplified language to the Class 7 students, they reinforced their own knowledge while gaining confidence and clarity. Such interaction nurtured a positive and supportive bond between the two classes, contributing to a more cohesive school environment.

Skylab Trip 2025

The Skylab Trip to Bishnupur took place from 1st to 3rd November,  2025. The trip included interactive space-related sessions and night-sky observations where students viewed stars and constellations through telescopes making the experience both exciting and enriching.

Visit to the Indian Meteorological Department

The students of Class 8 of Modern High School for Girls visited the Indian Meteorological Department for an educational trip on15th december, 2025. There the students observed the instruments used in forecasting and monitoring the weather with a brief explanation on their functioning. This hands-on experience greatly enhanced their understanding of how scientific data and technology contribute to disaster prediction and management. The topics explored included the origin and causes of cyclones and floods, monitoring the path and landfall of cyclones and the mapping of flood-prone areas using satellite imagery.

Foundation Day Celebration 2026

Modern High School for Girls celebrated its 74th year on 6th January, 2026 amidst much pomp and festivity. Ever since its inception in 1952, the school has gone from strength to strength nurturing women of substance who make their alma mater proud all over the world. This day saw Founder members, Administrative officials , Faculty Members and students come together to celebrate and commemorate the glorious past years of the institution with hopes of achieving even higher standards in the years to come.
