Modern High School for Girls organised a Bengali Poetry and Spoken Art Workshop ‘Kobitar Koto Kotha’ on 7th and 8th November 2024 for students of Classes 7 and 8. The workshop was conducted by an eminent elocutionist, Mr. Samya Karpha. The students learned about the correct diction of Bengali phonemes, voice modulation, body language, and many other important rules to follow while reciting a poem and speaking in front of an audience. The workshop was followed by a choral recitation of a Bengali poem that reflected what they learned in the session.
SkyLab Trip to Purulia 2024
The SkyLab Club of Modern High School for Girls organised a trip to Purulia for its members from 26th to 28th October 2024. Mr. Bhadra, the resource person from the Skywatchers’ Association of Dhakuria along with the Club Advisors accompanied the students, where they learned to assemble a telescope. They viewed Sunspots and observed various other celestial bodies through the telescope, which was the highlight of the trip. Learning to make a Planisphere and its usage was an enriching and interesting activity. The quiet and dim atmosphere of Purulia provided the perfect environment for skywatching.

Cyber Security Workshop for Class 9
Modern High School for Girls organised a Cyber Security Workshop for the students of Class 9 on 7th November 2024, where resource person Ms. Ankita More enlightened the students about cyber threats, cyberbullying, and steps one may take to avoid them. It was a highly enriching and interactive session that enabled students to identify risks and counter them effectively.
Bengali Workshop
Modern High School for Girls organised a Bengali Workshop – Galpo Pather Aashar—on 23rd October, 24, for students of Class 6.
The interactive storytelling session was conducted by Mrs. Sushmita Ganguly. It was followed by a written exercise where the students were asked to write their personal views on the moral of the story.
Sri Lanka Trip 2024
The students of Classes 9 to 12 of Modern High School visited Sri Lanka from 28th September to 4th October 2024. They visited the cities of Colombo, Kandy, and Bentota, where they explored Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Turtle Hatchery, tea garden and factory, Galle Dutch Fort, Gem Museum, Kandy Temple of the Tooth, and several other locations. The students enjoyed the lush scenery and the authentic Sri Lankan cuisine while creating memories for a lifetime.
Design Titans
Modern High School for Girls, in association with Atlas ISDI, hosted the Grand Interschool Competition ‘Design Titans’ on 28th September 2024. It brought together design and art enthusiasts from 17 schools with the intent of furthering design thinking and creating awareness about design careers. It was a platform for students of Class 11 & 12 to compete with the best from all the top schools of Kolkata and also helped these students immensely to fortify their choice of design as a career. The event included a fashion styling competition, a prototyping competition, as well as a competitive designing of posters. The students of Modern High School for Girls secured the First Position in ‘Style it Up’ and the Second Position in ‘Prototyping’.
Soap and Candle Making Workshops
Modern High School for Girls organised a Soap and Candle Making Workshop for the students of Class 8 over September’24. It attempted to expose the students to a dynamic curriculum where life skills and community service are woven seamlessly into the school program. Keeping in mind the practices being highlighted by NEP, 2020, this workshop aimed at enhancing the spirit of inquiry with a focus on the application of the concepts learned in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Art. They were also exposed to the entrepreneurial skills related to sales such as pricing and packaging. The workshop was conducted by Mrs Nita Diwan who is an MHS alumni and the Founder of UNMISH, an NGO working tirelessly with children with special needs.
