Tagores’ cultural and historical contributions form an integral part of West Bengal’s identity. To deepen the understanding of the students about their heritage, the Second Language Bengali students of Class 9 of Modern High School for Girls visited Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the ancestral home of the Tagore family, on 10th and 11th September, 2025. The beautiful architecture surrounding the traditional courtyards created a tranquil environment, fit for a place of such intellectual importance. The students moved on to a tour of the Maharshi Bhavan, the main residential building which provided a glimpse into the everyday life of the significant family. The important figures in Tagore’s life and his interactions with various well-known personalities were also highlighted. The Bichitra Bhavan contained displays of various artifacts and archives within colonial-style buildings. Further inside were the fascinating International Galleries, which focused on Tagore’s international travels to places such as Europe, the USA, Japan & China, and the emotional, artistic and humanistic effect that they had on him. The art galleries showcased Tagores’ personal collections, as well as the original artworks of many eminent family members such as Abanindranath Tagore. This educational trip introduced the students to a new world of knowledge and appreciation which served as a start for endless conversations and discussions.
