Modern High School for Girls celebrated Mental Health Week from 13th to 17th October, 2025. Sessions were held for students of Classes 6 to 12 and activities ranged from discussions on the importance of mental health, steps to be taken to create awareness and destigmatization of mental illnesses and concluded with students of all classes creating vibrant and innovative ‘Gratitude Boards’.

A creative writing workshop titled The Enchanted Castle was held for the students of Class 6 on 14th and 15th October, 2025 at Modern High School for Girls. This two-day workshop was designed to nurture imagination, originality, and confidence through creative writing and storytelling. Students took part in activities such as

• Runes & Scrolls – crafting ancient scrolls to record riddles and tales of adventure.
• Fairyland Atlas – drawing fantastical maps that chart imaginary kingdoms.
• Starlight Strips – turning story fragments into illustrated comic panels.
• Inventio – designing mythological creatures and writing their origin stories.
• Phantom Panels – creating poetry comics based on haunted or mysterious settings.

Each activity blended art, storytelling, and performance, transforming the Shed into an immersive creative space where words and imagination came alive.
Ms Somoshree Palit, an alumna of MHS and a second-year postgraduate student at Loreto College, University of Calcutta. She has presented research papers at Jadavpur University, Providence College, Aliah University, the London Arts-Based Research Centre, KIIT (Odisha), and the University of Sri Jayawardenapura (Sri Lanka) in collaboration with UNESCO and SAARC. Her academic work has been published in The Text and IOJES, while her poems, stories, and plays have appeared in international magazines including The Albion Review, The Olivetree Review, The Allegheny Review, and Euphemism (Illinois State University). Her experience in theatre further enriched this creative approach to learning.
