Tree Planting Ceremony 2025

On 8th August, 2025, the students of Class 8 of Modern High School for Girls transported everyone to the picturesque and serene Santiniketan, where Tagore or Kobi Guru Rabindranath Thakur, as we, the Bengalis felicitate him, started the ‘Vriksharopan Utsav’ on July 14, 1929 by planting a ‘bokul’ sapling. Modern High School for Girls has kept the legacy alive with its annual ‘vriksharopan’ (tree planting) ceremony where at the end of the ceremony, the sapling is planted in the school garden. The ceremony was an expression of the bard’s love for Nature and his strong belief that a deep sense of harmony binds every element of Nature. The various songs and dances, as well as narration, all performed by the young and talented students of Class 8, highlighted Tagore’s legacy of protecting the environment. The beautiful flower ‘alpana’ is an artistic expression of Tagore’s cherished ideals of ‘Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram’ – ‘Truth, Beauty and Compassion’ ; which is also the vision of our school. The ceremony was a celebration of the sacred communion between Nature and the human soul and compelled us to acknowledge and recognize Nature as a friend, philosopher and guide.
