On 4th August, 2026, the Clean Club members participated in a tree plantation drive at Lion’s Safari Park, Kolkata, organized by ‘Concern for Earth’ in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Belur. The programme aimed to spread awareness about environmental conservation and the importance of preserving biodiversity.
The session began with an interactive talk by the resource person, Mr. Santosh Mehta, who introduced students to a variety of medicinal plants and explained their uses. The plants discussed included the Insulin Plant, Giloy, Hadjod, Lemongrass, Thankuni, Gudmar, Kalmegh, Mentha, Pan, Nayantara, Patharchatta, and Curry Leaves. Students also had the opportunity to taste some of these plants and learn about their medicinal properties.
Following the session, the participants planted saplings as part of the tree plantation drive. A guided walk around the park allowed students to observe different species of plants and trees, including banana trees, while learning about the importance of maintaining green spaces and protecting the environment.
The programme concluded with a group rendition of an environmental awareness song carrying the message of reducing pollution and planting more trees. Before dispersing, every participant was presented with a snake plant to take home as a memento of the event and to encourage continued care for plants beyond the programme. The visit successfully combined environmental education with practical activities, providing students with valuable exposure to nature and the significance of tree plantation.
