On 3rd July 2025, the members of the Bhasha O Reeti Club of Modern High School for Girls embarked on an enriching field trip to Jorashanko Thakurbari, the birthplace and ancestral home of Tagore, nestled in the heart of North Kolkata.
The visit offered a glimpse into Tagore’s life beyond his writings. Among the many fascinating exhibits, the students saw rare photographs of Tagore with Rashbehari Bose’s family in Japan (1916), reflecting his global connections and influence and pictures from his visit to Burma and a model of the train compartment that carried him from Shantiniketan to Calcutta during his final journey. They got the opportunity to stand in the very room where Tagore breathed his last – a space that echoed in quiet dignity and deep history. They also explored the family maternity room, offering insights into the domestic life in the Tagore household and a mud oven, showcasing the traditional culinary practices of the time.
This trip was much more than just a field trip – it was a walk through living memory, where every corner held poetry and every wall hummed with rich history.
