Aditi’s letter to our Director, Mrs. D. Kar.

Dear Ma’am,

Hope you are doing well.

I have been eager to express my gratitude for the foundation that Modern High School provided me.

I am excited to let you know that I completed my doctorate program at Northumbria University, Newcastle this January and had my graduation ceremony earlier this month. I am grateful that my parents were able to attend. I have attached the abstract and the contents page of my thesis for your perusal. I would be delighted to hear your thoughts on my work.

In April, I had the opportunity to co-present a part of my PhD research at this year’s Association of American Geographers (AAG) conference. My presentation, which was part of a panel on Spatial Approaches to Applied Memory and Heritage, focused on heritage walks as applied forms of memory-making and their spatial politics in charting a sense of belongingness among their participants. I have attached the abstract for your reference.

I have also been invited to speak at the Royal Geographical Society’s (RGS) roundtable discussion on States of Precarity in UK Academia as an early career researcher at their annual conference in August.  I am looking forward to convening a panel for this conference entitled, Cartographies of Consumption: Cooking, Cuisine, and Culture (CFP attached)sponsored by their Food Geographies Research Group.

In May, I joined the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) as a Senior Researcher in their Methods team. My role involves working on various sector-agnostic projects for the government, academia, and other clients, primarily focusing on research design and analysis.

Reflecting on my journey, I am deeply grateful to you and Modern High School for laying such a strong foundation. I remember your PD classes and I must admit that they played a significant role in transforming me from a shy schoolgirl into the person I am today. I owe a great deal to my school and will be forever thankful for being a part of the MHS community.

Thank you once again for everything, and I look forward to staying in touch.

Best wishes,

Aditi
