IIT Kharagpur – Young Innovators Project

In a tough competition among over 250 teams from all over India, Modern High School was among the 24 teams that qualified for the IIT Kharagpur Young Innovators’ Program 2017 semi-finals.

Achievements of Aishani Sarkar in Swimming

Aishani Sarkar of Class V D represented the Calcutta Club in the TICCT meet, an interclub swimming competition involving the Calcutta Club, The Tollygunge Club, the Calcutta Swimming Club, and the Saturday Club. She was awarded four trophies:

(i)   The Best Swimmer (Girls D Division)

(ii) Winner of the individual medley (Girls D Division)

(iii) Captain T Mukherjee  Memorial Trophy: Highest number of points accrued by a swimmer in the meets.

(iv) Captain P T Basu Memorial Trophy (Swimmer having the highest average points multiplied by the participation factor (number of events in which the swimmer participated / number of events ))

She was also a bronze medalist in the 4 x 50-meter individual medley at the State Swimming Championship held this year.

In under 15 age category her highest all India ranking has been number 14.

In under 17 age category she is presently ranked number 6 in India and has 21 months to reach the top.

She has received three merit certificates out of a possible four in the nationals she has participated.

Tanaya is short listed for the Asian juniors to be held at Jordan 15th Aug 2017. The top 8 players are called at the Chennai academy and top 4 represents the country.

At present Tanaya is the highest ranked player amongst both boys and girls across all the five age categories from Eastern India.

Anita Bhatia

We take great pride in announcing the appointment of Modern High School Alumna Anita Bhatia (Class of 1979) as Assistant Secretary-General by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Anita has a Bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Calcutta, a Master’s in political science from Yale University and a law degree from Georgetown University.

She comes to the UN after a long career at the World Bank and its private sector arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where she worked in strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, and management.

At the UN, she will be responsible for resource management, sustainability and partnerships and simultaneously serve as the Deputy Executive Director of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, which is known as UN Women.
