Durga Puja Celebration – Class 2

Durga Puja, a vibrant festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil, was joyfully marked by our Class 2 students with great enthusiasm. The day began with an introduction to the significance of the festival, followed by engaging activities across all sections.

Students prepared a creative version of Malai Cham Cham using bread, cream, milk powder, and beetroot juice for color, beautifully garnished with rose petals, coconut and nuts. Sharing the sweet treat filled the classrooms with joy.

Through a worksheet, they learned about the ten weapons of Goddess Durga and decorated their class boards to reflect the festive spirit. They also linked the ‘vahanas’ of different deities with animals studied in EVS.

The celebration not only immersed the children in tradition but also taught them values of courage, strength, unity and respect for culture.

Class 1- Festivals

The students of Class 1 celebrated the onset of the festive season by discovering and learning about the diverse cultures of India. The children dressed in regional outfits, brought a simple food item related to the place and spoke a few words on their chosen region. They thoroughly enjoyed wearing the bright and colourful clothes and spoke with confidence. All participated in the activity with much enthusiasm and gained valuable information about the different parts of our country.

DeutschDialogTreff – Gefühle im Fokus

On 17 September 2025, the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata conducted the fifth session of its “DeutschDialogTreff” this year.

In this second round, advanced learners of German were invited to participate in an informal setting to practice their speaking skills. The session focused on the theme “Gefühle” (Feelings), encouraging participants to share experiences, engage in lively discussions and explore the nuances of expressing emotions in German.

One of our Class 11 students, Sunayani Mitra, proudly took part in the event. It was a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their language abilities while connecting with peers in an interactive and motivating atmosphere.

 

Hindi Diwas 2025

On 18th September 2025, the students of Classes 3, 4 and 5 at Modern High School for Girls came together to celebrate Hindi Diwas with great enthusiasm. Although Hindi Diwas is traditionally observed on 14th September, the school marked the occasion a few days later so that everyone could participate and enjoy the festivities. The programme sought to honour Hindi as a unifying language and to highlight its cultural and literary significance.

The young performers captivated the audience with a vibrant line-up of dances, soulful songs, expressive poetry recitations and a lively skit. Their energy and sincerity made the programme both joyful and inspiring, reminding everyone of the beauty and richness of the language we share.

Industrial Visit to Parle Industries, Dhulagarh

On 15th September 2025, students of Classes 10, 11 and 12 of Modern High School for Girls visited Parle Industries, Dhulagarh, Howrah, as part of their experiential learning programme. The visit aimed to provide insight into the bakery industry and modern food production practices.
Students were taken through the entire production line of biscuits and confectionery. They keenly observed the sequence beginning with the selection and mixing of raw ingredients, followed by dough preparation, moulding, baking, cooling, and finally the automated packaging process. The precision and efficiency of the machinery, along with the strict hygiene and quality control measures, left a lasting impression.
The interaction with factory officials helped students understand the challenges of large-scale production, storage, and distribution of baked goods. The visit successfully linked theoretical concepts of food science with their practical application in industry, enriching students’ knowledge and broadening their perspective.
Overall, the industrial visit to Parle Industries was a highly educational and inspiring experience, offering students a first-hand view of how one of India’s leading brands maintains consistency, quality, and trust through its production line.

Class 9 visit to Krystal School of Excellence

On 9th September 2025, Krystal School of Excellence held a three-hour baking workshop for students of Class 9 of Modern High School for Girls focusing on hands-on learning and creativity. Participants learned to make strawberry cheesecake, focaccia bread, garlic knot, and churros under expert guidance. The workshop allowed students to explore ingredients, baking techniques, and food presentation, helping them gain basic and advanced skills in pastry and bread making. Such events at Krystal School of Excellence are designed to boost culinary confidence and teamwork among young learners, reinforcing its reputation as one of Kolkata’s top institutes for hospitality and culinary arts. Exposure to real-world baking inspires students who may want to pursue a professional future in patisserie or hotel management. Overall, this practical experience not only made baking fun but also encouraged students to consider further possibilities in the culinary world.

Visit to Kumortuli by Focus and Bhasha-O-Riti Clubs

The members of Focus Club and Bhasha-O-Riti Club visited Kumortuli on 16th September, 2025 to observe and appreciate the art of transformation of mere clay into majestic Durga idols. While the Focus Club members captured the beauty of creation through their lenses, the members of the Bhasha-O-Riti Club explored the socio-cultural significance of the making of the idols and the festival.

Economics Masterclass 2025

An Economics Masterclass was organized on 10th September, 2025 for the students of Modern High School for Girls. The resource person was Dr. Mou Roy, Associate Professor and HOD of Economics Department in Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata who conducted the session on the topic of National Income.

Geography Masterclass 2025

A Geography Masterclass was organized on 15th September, 2025 for the students of Classes 11 & 12 of Modern High School for Girls. The resource person was Dr. Kaberi Samanta, the Assistant Vice President of Dr. Earth AI Technologies Pvt Ltd, Kolkata who conducted the session on the topic Geographical Information System and its future aspects.

Quaestio-Inter-School Quiz Competition

On 10th September, Modern High School for Girls participated in Quaestio, an Inter -School Quiz Competition organised by Birla High School for Boys. Three of our students, Shakumbharee De and Varunavi Modi from Class 5 and Amaira Bhartia from Class 4, competed against 16 schools. They successfully qualified in the preliminary round, which required answering 25 challenging questions. Out of the 16 schools, 8 advanced to the final stage to compete for the champion’s title.

The finals consisted of 6 rounds that included a variety of formats such as mixed bag, audio-visual, missing links, riddles and the buzzer round. Our students competed with confidence and enthusiasm.

The event was an enriching experience that kept both the participants and the audience engaged and curious until the very end and widened their scope of general awareness.
