Sports Day will be held on Saturday 9 December 2017 at 9.30am. All students must be in school by 8.20am sharp in their respective classrooms.  Important : School bus service will NOT be available. They must wear their drill outfits – red shorts, drill skirt and whiteT shirt (tucked into the skirt), with white ankle length socks and white keds. They need to wear their head bands with a flower.(No stockings, leggings or long sleeved inners are to be worn)All other clothes and equipment are to be labelled and brought neatly packed in a bag.  Please remove your daughter’s cardigan before she enters school.All water bottles must have the student’s NAME and CLASS clearly written.They may bring some light and dry tiffin with them. Parents are to use Gate 5 (near Bengal Stores) to enter and MUST show their invitation card at the Gate, without which entry will not be permitted. Winter Wear

Students will wear their regular school cardigans. Please ensure that the student’s name is clearly written on the inside.They may wear warm sleeveless inner vests. However this should not be visible at all.Students may also wear plain white stockings (these are now available in Bengal Stores) on very cold days.Students have been allowed to wear leggings and long sleeved T shirts due to the threat of dengue. However we now feel that their winter wear will be adequate protection.

This habit inculcated in school through library periods, author visits, book reading sessions by professionals is amply supported by good practices at home.This year, on 22 November, the whole school - students and faculty - will read together during the 4th period ( 11 am to 11.40 am).Please ensure that your ward is carrying a book of her choice on that day. From class 3 upwards, they are also allowed to carry their Kindle device, if they are so habituated. However no other electronic device eg Tablets or laptops are allowed. Safe carpooling

To combat the traffic chaos during arrival and dispersal time of our students, we would like to share with you a unique and safe method of car pooling. This is a social initiative which has the support of Kolkata Police. Aleena Majumdar

Aleena Majumdar - Class 2007 an MHS alumna did her professional degree in Architecture at Syracuse University, New York.  During her student years she had the opportunity to study and work in Florence, Italy as part of the expansion project of the Ufizi museum, and projects in downtown New York.   She joined Cannon Design an American Architecture and Design firm (who have designed Kolkata's Tata Cancer hospital in Rajarhat). She then joined ZAS Architects and Interiors in Toronto Canada, where was the lead architect from her firm in designing a high profile multipurpose school project, which received a lot of public accolade and press.  She is currently working with Gensler, which is the world's largest architecture company, in their Toronto office.

Modern High School for Girls will be participating in DaanUtsav (earlier known as Joy of Giving). DaanUtsav Week is an annual festival of ‘giving’ which began in 2009 and is celebrated all over India. It is a platform for everyone to reach out and give to those who are less fortunate. Clean Club - Tree Planting

Dr. Tapati Ghosh from the Centre for Contemporary Communication supported by the German Consulate of Kolkata met the Clean Club members on 16th August. They discussed programmes to raise social awareness regarding climate change in Kolkata and the necessity to plant more trees. The Club members planted 2 Chinese Tagors in the school garden as symbolic gesture of their contribution towards a greener Kolkata.

Class VIIIs took part in a Patachitra Workshop. 6 artisans from Pingla, Mednipur conducted the workshop. The artisans displayed their patachitra and other artwork. They also sang ballads to narrate the stories depicted in their patachitras. The artisans then interacted with the students to help them create their own patachitras
